Devlyn Optical joins Leander Chamber of Commerce

We decided to join the Leander Chamber of Commerce because we want to be on top of important, ever-changing issues and trends within the community and proactively serve the marketplace in the best way possible.

However, as part of the Leander community, we also try to give back to the community we serve by giving the gift of sight to those in need and educating children and adults on proper vision care.

We believe the Leander Chamber of Commerce will enable us reach out to the community in a more effective way to identify children and adults in the Leander community suffering from poor vision because they lack access to eye care and eyewear.

Tips for maintaining your eyes healthy!

Did you know that the 80% of our memories are stored because of what we see? This healthy vision month, let’s take care of our eyes.

Here are few tips to keep your eyes healthy -
  1. Use Sunglasses to protect your eyes: Exposure to sun’s UV(ultra-violet) rays make you prone to eye diseases like cataract. Go for sunglasses that offer protection against UVA/UVB rays to safeguard yourself.
  2. Eat Good, See Better: Eating nutritious and protein rich food gives our eyes the strength to fight off vision problems like Catract and Age-related Macular Degeneration. Vitamins C & E and essential nutrients like Zinc, Lutein and Omega-3 are recommended for healthy vision.
  3. Stop Smoking: It has been found that people who smoke regularly are at higher risk of being diagnosed with macular degeneration and cataract. It is advised that we should stop smoking to maintain our eyes healthy.
  4. Regular Eye-check Up: No matter what age you are, you should get your eyes tested regularly. Diseases like Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma show no symptoms or early signs. Eye examinations help you diagnose them early and avoid vision loss.

During this healthy vision month, visit any of Devlyn Optical Store and get your eyes tested by our experienced optometrists and keep your vision hale and hearty.

This Healthy Vision Month, keep an eye on your Vision!

Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Age-Related Macular Degeneration are few of the familiar eye diseases that show no early symptoms or signs that can lead to vision loss and blindness.

You will be surprised to know –

  • People above 50 years of age have increased risk of developing Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
  • Hispanics/Latinos are prone to Diabetic Retinopathy caused due to uncontrolled diabetes
  • Glaucoma has been found to be 3x times more common in African-Americans. It affects the peripheral vision in an individual
  • Chances of having diabetes among American Indians and Alaska Natives are 35% more than an average adult in US. This increases the risk of diabetes related eye diseases among them.

Regular eye check-up and tests ensure that your eyes remain healthy. And, if you feel that you are at higher risk of an eye-disease, it is advised that you should get a comprehensive dilated eye exam done.

Early detection and treatment will help slowdown or avoid vision loss, bringing down the risk of blindness significantly.

May is a Healthy Vision Month!

Do you know close to 4 Million people (above 40 years of age) in United States were reported to be suffering from Vision Disorder in 2010? This number is expected to touch 13 million in 2050.

Healthy Vision Month is a joint initiative of Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs) - Vision Health Initiative and National Eye Institute to create awareness about eye health and making it a priority among Americans.

Millions of persons in the United States have undiagnosed vision problems and eye conditions. Vision impairment is associated with the inability to perform daily activities, such as reading, driving a car, and preparing meals. Moreover, vision impairment is associated with an increased risk for falls, fall-related injuries, social isolation, and poorer overall health.

National Eye Institute recommends that during the Healthy Vision Month, individuals should undertake a comprehensive dilated eye examination by an eye-care professional. This will help detecting certain eye diseases and conditions at early stages and avoid any kind of vision loss.

We request you to spread a word and share this information with everyone you care for. Let us come together and help everyone see better!
